History

The Department of Social Sciences Education (former Departments of Educational Foundations (1981-2005) and Teacher Education (1978-1981) is the oldest Department in the Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin. The Department is currently responsible for courses leading to three programmes in B.Sc. (Ed.) degrees obtainable in Economics, Geography, and Social Studies. At the Postgraduate level, the Department offers courses leading to M.Ed., M.Phil and Ph. D Degrees in five programmes namely: Curriculum Studies (in Social Sciences related subjects), Educational Psychology, Educational Research, Measurement and Evaluation, Social Studies Education and Sociology of Education. All the programmes are through teaching and research, and they all enjoy full accreditation.
